Franciscan LEAD replaces Young Apostles
Dear Group Leaders,
The Young Apostles Program over the years has done some amazing things with many of my teens, and I am incredibly grateful for the impact it has had on many, many young people. But as our culture has become increasingly hostile to our faith, I think it is time we offer a kind of leadership development that meets the NEW needs that many youth ministers are experiencing. And that is what we have tried to develop with LEAD. A number of front-line youth ministers and leaders have contributed to the formation of this new program.
It is going to be one awesome week, and one I PRAY that you will consider having some of your teens experience. What we have done at our parish is aim to "tithe" our teens to this leadership program – we have 60 spaces reserved at the Steubenville on the Bayou Conference, so we’re trying to line up 6 who will be a part of LEAD. To ease the financial burden, if a teen goes on LEAD, the parish is picking up their conference registration fee. I know many of you come from parishes where that may not be possible. We really can’t either, our youth ministry budget just got cut by 25% - I’m going after adult sponsors for these six teens to cover their fee.
My plea is for you to consider how your teens and your youth ministry could be impacted by involvement in this new program. Please don’t just disregard it because it is different, or because you don’t like the changes. Send ONE teen at least to check it out – I really don’t think you will be disappointed. Like I said, the Youth Office is extending the deadline so we can hopefully get more teens involved. Please prayerfully consider getting some of your teens registered.
